Road Trip Unwind – Five Things That Can Get You All Twisted!

Tips and Tricks of Massage Therapy
By: Julie Keating

It is hard to believe that the summer is not only in full swing – it is just about over! Summers are a great time to pack the car and take the show on the road, but hitting the highway isn’t all fun and games for your body. If you are heading out or heading home, a massage should definitely be on your to-do list. With school resuming in just a couple of weeks, scheduling your massage ASAP is a must. These are just five things that come with the road trip territory that will call for you to unwind with a massage.

Different Beds

Our bodies get used to a certain level of support or, for some, lack thereof. When you hit the road traveling, you typically sleep in different surroundings and on different structures. From blow-up mattresses to the ground, not having the comfort you are used to can make you wake up feeling stiff. And not getting good sleep can contribute to stress and muscle tightness, which can be hard to work through. A massage can help you rest comfortably back at home. There is no better place than your own bed!

Sitting for Long Stretches

Not all of us are used to sitting for long periods. Even worse, cars can be cramped, and so can your body. After hours of driving, it is normal to feel a little stiff and tight. If you are the driver, constantly keeping your body stuck in the same position can wreak havoc on your muscles and joints. Getting out and walking around periodically is a great way to reduce sore and stiff joints, but there is no better cure for tight cramped seating than a massage.

Going Long, Going Hard

When we hit the road for vacation, there are often so many things to see in such little time that we end up pushing ourselves physically to do it all. If you went all over on eighty different adventures, that can tax your body and cause muscle strain and exhaustion. It is always good to get exercise, but if your muscles aren’t used to it, exercise can lead to a lot of soreness and stiffness. The good news is that it isn’t anything that some good R&R along with a massage can’t cure!

Extended Dehydration

One of the best things about summer is the sunny skies and hot weather days. When you are out in the heat and participating in outdoor excursions, though, it is easy to forget to properly hydrate, which can lead to sore muscles and pain. It is always a good idea to take a water bottle along for the ride, but sometimes you need a little more to remove the toxins that can build up if you aren’t well hydrated. A massage is an effective way to get those toxins moving and out of your body for good.

Summer is a great time to pack it up and hit the road, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t both physically and mentally taxing. As people return from their summer vacations and get ready for kids to go back to school, now is the time to schedule your unwinding massage appointment with our massage therapist in Augusta! Beat the crowds and the heat, and do a little something for yourself after entertaining the troops all summer by scheduling your massage appointment today!
