In 2026 we live in a world full of “self care routine’s.” Everyone has to have the best skin serum, a super complicated workout schedule, wake up at 4am, drink their greens, and the list goes on and on. While some of these things may be good for you and bring you some joy, why don’t we take a step back for a second? Before spending your money on the next big trend in efforts of ‘self care,’ consider going back to the basics. Get a massage! It may not seem like much, but a massage works wonders all over your body, inside and out. How often should you get a massage? Does routine massage mean you’re stuck getting a massage every month for the rest of your life? Let’s find out!
Massage Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All
First off, we just want to note that there is no straight answer to our big question here. Everybody is different and every body is different! What works best for one person may not work well for you. Whether it’s due to schedule constraints, injuries, chronic pain, or something different.
That being said, you can find your answer to “How often do I need a massage?” by figuring out your massage goals first!
Figuring Out Your Massage Goals
So, how do you figure out your massage goals? Let’s answer a few questions first.
What kind of pain do you have and where is it in your body? Or do you have pain at all? Do you participate in any sports? Do you work at a desk job? Any health conditions?
What we narrow down with these questions comes to this: are you wanting a massage routine for pain relief and health benefits or just relaxation? The answer to this question (also considering your budget and schedule) will bring you one step closer to figuring out the frequency of which you should get a massage.
If you’ve answered these questions but you still aren’t sure, you can always talk with your massage therapist. But then… how do you know which type of massage to get?

What Happens When Massage is Consistent
The effects of massage are similar to that of exercise for your body. When you incorporate a massage into your self care routine, it will help release hormones and neurotransmitters that speed up healing, promote relaxation, stimulate contentment, lower your blood pressure, reduce inflammation, and more.
The more active you are, the more often you are likely to need a massage. This will help your body recover faster so you can continue in your routine and heal from potential future injuries quicker and easier than you would otherwise.
